We wanted to provide a brief update for all interested families. Unfortunately we are still in a holding pattern and don’t have anything concrete to share regarding the upcoming season.
First of all thank you to all of our returning families for the completion of our survey last week. The feedback we received was very helpful and while there are strong feelings and emotions on both sides, there is a consensus that people want to play basketball this season.
As mentioned previously, we face two challenges this year when discussing a Needham Metrowest season. The first being the current state guidelines regarding basketball and other sports deemed to be “high-risk”. We are expecting the state to provide their guidelines regarding these “high-risk” indoor winter sports over the next few weeks and hope to have something to review and discuss in early November. Committing to anything prior to seeing the state guidelines would be premature.
The other issue we are facing is the lack of gym space available to us this year. As discussed previously, both the town of Needham and many of the private schools whom facilities we use for practices and games have decided to not rent to outside organizations this year for health and safety reasons. We have recently reached out to the town, shared with them the feedback from the parent survey and asked them if they believe that policy may change after January 1st and are waiting to hear back.
We expect to know more in the coming weeks and will plan to provide an update mid to late November. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to email us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
The Needham Metrowest Basketball Travel program is a competitive program for boys and girls, grades 4th thru 8th. The winter program competes in the Metrowest Basketball League which includes over 80 towns and 1,000 teams. Individual and team development in the sport are the major goals of the league in addition to developing our young players in a respectful and supportive team environment. The program typically offers a higher and lower division team in each age group. Additional teams are added as practice gym space and other factors permit. Players who live in Needham or attend Needham schools through the METCO program are eligible. Players must play in the grade level that they attend that school year.
Many questions about the program can be answered by viewing the FAQ section. If you have other questions please email us at email@example.com.
Tryouts are posted under the Home tab and will be announced in the Needham Times and will be been communicated via an email to all parents of children who tried out the prior year. Please note you must register before the tryout – no exceptions.
